Los Angeles Rams will play Kansas City Chiefs in Mexico City in 2018

LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Rams will play against the Kansas City Chiefs in Mexico City during the 2018 season, the NFL announced on Wednesday. The game will be played at Estadio Azteca, with the Rams serving as the home team.

The date and time of the game won’t be revealed until the 2018 schedule is announced in April.

The NFL mandates that teams play one International Series game for every year they play out of a temporary facility. The Rams — using Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum until their new stadium in Inglewood, California, is ready for the 2020 season — played in London the last two years, against the New York Giants and the Arizona Cardinals.

The NFL previously announced three 2018 games in London, between the Seattle Seahawks and Oakland Raiders, Philadelphia Eagles and Jacksonville Jaguars, and Tennessee Titans and Los Angeles Chargers. The NFL also hosted games in Mexico the past two years and will continue to do so through at least 2021.

“Over the past two seasons, we have seen the extraordinary passion that exists for NFL football in Mexico,” NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement.

In another statement, Rams owner Stan Kroenke said, “Southern California and Mexico share strong historic and cultural ties, and this game will provide an opportunity to celebrate the special connection between these two regions.”
